ANA RIBAS, PH.D.
Dr Ana Ribas is a licensed clinical psychologist that maintains a private practice in the Los Angeles area and provides online therapy in California.
Dr Ribas is currently the Assistant Clinical Director of the Adult OCD Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program at the UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, as well as a clinical supervisor and therapist in the program. She provides individual and group therapy, training and supervision in the delivery of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). For 8 years, Dr Ribas served as a staff psychologist at the UCLA Counseling and Psychological services as a clinical supervisor, therapist, outreach coordinator, and as leader of the International Students Wellness Committee, where she was distinguished with a staff achievement award.
Dr Ribas completed her predoctoral APA Accredited internship at Didi Hirsh Community Mental Health Center in Los Angeles. Her postdoctoral fellowship was at the USC department of Psychology, as a clinical research coordinator, while also serving as a clinical supervisor at the USC Psychology Services Center. After getting her license in CA, she was invited by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) to serve as a question writer for the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP).
Due to her passion for experiential treatment approaches, Dr Ribas has obtained Level II certification in Emotion Focused Therapy with Leslie Greenberg, Ph.D. and Robert Elliott, PhD, the founders of this evidence-based approach. She also has extensive clinical experience and training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness Based Self-Compassion (MBSC).
Prior to completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Dr Ribas obtained a professional degree in Psychology from the University of Porto, in Portugal. She is a licensed psychologist in Portugal, where she had extensive training and experience in clinical supervision, rehabilitation, psychodrama and career counseling. She practiced there as a psychologist for several years, providing supervision to psychology trainees at the University of Porto, as a therapist in private practice, and as a therapist and coordinator in rehabilitation settings, including participating in international rehabilitation projects. In 2001 she was invited to be a Mental Health group leader for the European Platform for Rehabilitation (EPR).
In 2001, Dr Ribas was awarded a doctoral fellowship from the Portuguese Science Foundation to complete her PhD in the US in Clinical Psychology with a Rehabilitation Track. She has been an invited professor in graduate programs in Portugal focused on assessment and treatment of chronic pain and other rehabilitation issues.
Dr Ribas is a member of the International OCD Foundation, the California Psychological Association, and of the International Society for Emotion Focused Therapy.
Dr Ribas is an experienced and integrative psychologist committed to providing empathic, high quality, culturally competent therapy services to a diverse adult population. She believes her strengths as a therapist are her ability to be attuned with her clients with warmth and authenticity, to follow them empathically, but also lead their therapeutic process, her flexibility to integrate clinical interventions, and her clinical judgment. Her therapy approach is informed by evidence-based treatments and draws on research findings and best practices in her profession.
Dr Ribas serves the greater Los Angeles area. She also provides online therapy to patients in California.
I believe that a different therapy must be constructed for each patient because each has a unique story.
